Getting your Appliances ready for your move

Moving is a lot of work. It can be stressful to pack everything you own and get it all into one place, especially if you're moving across the country or overseas. You have plenty on your hands just keeping everything organized, but what about cleaning out your fridge? While some appliances are easy to move safely, others may require some extra care before you get there.

Clean out your fridge and toss anything that has gone bad.

When you're cleaning out your refrigerator, the first thing you should do is make sure not to damage it. If you have an older model that's a bit shaky or wobbly, tie it down with some rope or bungee cords so that it doesn't fall over in transit. We have bungee cords to help secure your fridge during your move.

Next, remove all food from the refrigerator and store it in coolers or boxes with ice packs until you can put it back into the new home. Also remove any containers (bottles/jars/etc.) that were in the refrigerator, as well as any drawers on the door of your refrigerator; they'll just take up more space than they need if they're left behind.

Before you move the items from their original location and into their new space, make sure to wrap up all of the wires so that they won't get tangled up during transport. Then, once you've moved everything outside onto a dolly (or other carrying device), someone can wheel them right into their new location without any trouble!

Freezer cleaning

Before you move, plan on how you'll store your food in the freezer. This will save you money, time and space. And don't forget about saving energy—that's another plus of using the freezer instead of turning on an oven all day long!

Make a list of the things you would like to take with you.

  • When you are moving, you will have to pack up your furniture and appliances. But there are also other items that you will need to move. If you have pets or children in the household, make sure that their toys and supplies can be packed up as well.

  • Before you move, make sure to unplug all your appliances. Not only will this help to protect them from damage during transport, but it also ensures that none of your appliances get damaged due to overloading outlets or tripping breakers while they're being moved around.

  • Pack small items into suitcases or boxes so they're ready to go when moving day arrives. Put pots and pans in cardboard boxes with extra room so movers can store them easily, and save yourself some clutter once everything arrives at its new home!

  • To keep glassware from breaking during transportation, wrap each fragile piece individually in bubble wrap. You'll prevent other objects from knocking against the glass, and you'll save yourself headaches when it comes time to unpack.

Before you begin, make sure to disconnect any appliances or fixtures that need to be left behind or drained.

Before you move, it's a good idea to disconnect and drain your appliances. Any appliance that is not working or can't be repaired should be drained and left behind. Appliances that are functioning properly but need to be disconnected from power should also be drained and left in place until after the move. Draining water or oil from an appliance is also important; hoses and cords should also be drained if they haven't already been disconnected.
