Tips on Moving Home during the heat wave

Updated: Sep 1, 2022

Moving can be stressful, especially when the weather's hot. But you can make things easier on yourself by planning ahead and following these tips to help you get settled into your new home as quickly as possible.

What you should do before you move.

  • Before moving day, make sure you’re well rested and have had a healthy breakfast. Pack what you need first, then go back and pack everything else. Dress comfortably—you will be on your feet most of the day so make sure that you are wearing shoes that won't hurt your feet or cause blisters later in the day! Pack a bag with essentials like water bottles and snacks so that you can take regular breaks when needed throughout the day.

A few things to know about how to pack.

When you're packing, don't pack any items that have been stored in direct sunlight. You may also want to consider hiring a professional mover or at least ask around for recommendations from friends who've recently moved. Another thing to keep in mind is that moving companies typically charge more during the hottest days of summer—and those costs could add up quickly!Know where your furniture is currently stored before your move.

Make sure you do not over-pack the box.

Dont overload your boxes while packing up . Given that the weather is hot , it will take more effort and time to complete your move .

Some handy tools for moving.

  • Tape measure: This is a great tool for measuring the size of the room you're packing up and estimating how many boxes you'll need.

  • Packaging scissors are great for cutting open cardboard boxes, but any type of scissors will do the trick.

  • Packing tape and packing paper will keep your fragile items safe during transit. Bubble wrap is great for anything with glass or other fragile components. Make sure not to place too much weight on top of these items.

  • Box cutter or sharp knife: You'll need one of these tools to slice through cardboard and other materials when you're moving into a smaller place after the big move.
